What should I except when traveling to Cape Verde?Here are some things you can expect when visiting Cape Verde: The country is cash heavy. Most restaurants accept Visa but cash is essential for smaller businesses. If you do not have a Cape Verdean Passport or ID when entering the country, you will need to pay a fee of about $40 to enter. Wifi can be spoty. Be patient. You can get a sim card on arrival at the airport if your phone takes sim cards. If not, you may want to consider an e-sim with the Airalo app or paying the daily rate for your phone company's international plan. There may be a lot of flies at some outdoor restaurants. Everything takes longer, be patient. Especially at restaurants. When flying in between islands, always keep your bag tags, and be the first in line to board your flights.

What is the best form of transportation around the island?Taxis are the most common way to get around the islands if you don't have a car. You can have the hotel you are staying at call you a taxi or you can flag them down. When you land at the airports there will be taxis waiting outside. Always negotiate your price before getting in the taxi and make sure your driver is familiar with where you are going. Most taxi drivers do not have a GPS, they go by familiarity with landmarks. You can use the GPS on your phone to guide them if they are not sure where you are going.

Will my phone work in Cape Verde?You have a few options with getting connection on your phone: If you have a phone with that is unlocked and takes a SIM card, you can get a CV SIM card when you land at the airport and they will install it for you there. If you do not have a SIM card, you can download the Airalo app before your trip and get an E-SIM from them to use in CV. Another option is to pay for the international plan from your phone provider while you are in CV. For free calls and text messages internationally, download the WhatsApp or Viber app to use while connected to Wi-Fi.

Do I need vaccines to travel to Cape Verde?Consult your doctor. The National Travel Health Network and Centre and WHO recommend the following vaccinations for Cape Verde: COVID-19, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, typhoid, yellow fever, rabies and tetanus.

What is the dress code for the 50th Birthday Party?The Dress Code is dressy formal attire. No Jeans or sweats For example: Men: Dress pants and dress shirt or suit and ties. Women: Midi or Maxi Dresses.

What is the Currency of Cape Verde?Cash is still king in Cape Verde. The currency is the Escudo de Cabo Verde (ECV). Coins come in denominations from 1 to 200 escudos and bills from 200 to 5,000. The 1,000 bill is commonly called the conto. It is recommended that you bring USD cash to exchange at the airport or at a local bank. One-hundred-dollar bills are most recommended for exchange. You can see the most current exchange rate here. USD is not accepted throughout the country. Euros, are widely accepted on the island of Sal. Debit and Credit cards are accepted at most restaurants. You will need cash for taxis, and shops along the road.

Can i bring additional guests to the scheduled events?While you are welcome to travel to Cape Verde with whomever you'd like, we need to limit event attendance (December 21st and December 25th) to only those that you have RSVPed in advance for. We are expecting that your RSVPs will include your spouse and or children attending, if any. You are of course welcome to bring anyone you would like to the trip to Sal.

What airlines fly to Cape Verde?SATA Azores Airlines and TAP Portugal are the airlines that fly to the capital, Praia in Cape Verde. The major difference when flying out of Boston, Logan International Airport is that SATA will be a shorter flight with a 30 minute layover in the Azores. While, TAP will require a longer layover in Lisbon. If you are looking to spend some time in Portugal during your trip, TAP is recommend. Otherwise SATA is the better option when flying out of Boston.
